Kiverton Droughtmasters runs approximately 50 breeders and owners Dave and Liz Spring also manage a larger property with 120 commercial DM breeders with weaners grown out for the feeder market. Prior to moving into the beef industry Dave and Liz ran a successful Holstein Friesian Stud and dairy. This stud was built up from the foundations, incorporating Canadian bloodlines and lead them to having cows within the top 10 ABV in the whole of Australia. The show rings demonstrated the success of their work within the breed and the chosen genetics resulted in many stud-bred cattle winning champions and supremes within the region.
The Kiverton Stud was established in 2010 with the aim of slowly replacing our existing commercial herd and moving to pure Droughtmaster breeding. We gradually increased our stud females by purchasing heifers and cow calf units from various sales. We choose well-bred animals from quality proven cow families. Initially we used quite a lot of AI enabling us to utilize a wide range of genetics creating a strong foundation to build our stud on. Our females must be structurally sound, fertile and have a calm temperament. They must have well attached udders with correct teat placement and size for ease of calf rearing.imately
